Su Xing House (http://www.suxinghouse.com ), in central Philadelphia, recently came under the supervision of R Zev Schwarcz. Today I had a chance to try it out, and it was as good as the web site makes it appear. I was there for a very late lunch (half an hour too late to take advantage of the lunch specials, the waitress informed me) so the place was quiet; I don't know what it's like at peak times. But the decor was calm, the waitress attentive, and unlike most kosher Chinese places (but like most non-kosher ones) they give you tea as soon as you sit down, and refill it regularly.

I had hot and sour soup, and kung po tofu. They say that hot and sour soup is the measure of a Chinese restaurant; if they mess it up it's a bad sign about all their cooking. Well, Su Xing did not mess it up. I can't say it was the greatest H&S soup I've had, it seemed a bit watery compared to some (that probably just means they don't add starch to thicken it :-) ) but it was perfectly good. No complaints. The kung pao was delicious; in my own opinion it would have been improved by using chicken :-) but that's just me. And of course then it wouldn't have been kosher and I wouldn't have been there. The mushrooms in the kung pao were very nice indeed, and when on my way out I saw a newspaper review in the window praising the way this chef has with mushrooms I knew exactly what was meant. For this alone it's worth a visit.

As a welcome surprise, the fortune cookie came with two small slices of watermelon instead of the usual orange; a perfect end to the meal.

A few weeks ago, my family and I decided to get together for lunch at My Most Favorite Food. My Mom was in an accident at the beginning of the summer and she is still recovering. This was her first outing, besides for doctors, since then. We knew that the restaurant that we chose had to be just the right one. We hit the nail on the head!

We were a party of 8 and were seated at a large table in a nice corner. Cold, filtered water was constantly poured for us and bread baskets filled with the most delicious variety of breads were replenished as we asked.

Most of us ended up ordering the soup of the day, which was a split pea soup. It was the most delicious, thick soup we had ever tasted. It was hard to believe that the soup was not a meat based soup. All of the main dishes, which included fish and chips, wild salmon salad, sandwiches and field green salads were enjoyed by all and eaten till the plates were clean. The portions were plentiful and presented beautifully. Only 2 family members ordered dessert since we were so full. The rhubarb pie was a big hit. The slice looked like it could feed at least 2 people.

The wait staff was attentive and friendly. We even got to meet the owner, who walked around constantly making sure that everything was running smoothly.

The only complaint that I have was about the air conditioning. It didn't feel like there was any air circulating through the restaurant. It was a very hot summer day and it should have felt cool and comfortable inside.

On our way out, we stopped to admire the array of cookies, cakes and fancy pastries that were displayed in showcases for purchase. The majority of them were ones that could not be found in most kosher bakeries. I bought some of the French Macarons to try. They were light, airy and delicious!

My family and I look forward to returning to My Most Favorite Food for another wonderful meal, very soon!!

Rarely am I on the Upper East but I've exhusted and grown tired of the kosher restaurants in midtown. I've always known of Rectangles Yemenite Israeli restaurant on 1st Ave and 74th but never went. In short AMAZING!!! I've almost forgotten what authentic Israeli food tastes like. Their salads, falafel, cigars, and lamb shank was incredible. I can't believe I've never been there before. The decor was also beautiful. Parking is the only difficulty. They even had the european soccer games on TV With a full bar and sidewalk cafe what else could you want. Friendly & fast service. Only wished they would deliver to midtown. Looking forward to dining there again. AWESOME.

I went for lunch to Circa-NY - the downtown location.
This is perfect combination of fast food, healthy food and great tasting food. Offering pasta, pizza and salads and more, with various choices in each category. The attendants were very helpful and quick preparing my Linguine, with tomato & basil sauce with hot peppers and mushrooms. It was delicious. My colleagues were very impressed with their salads and there was plenty of choices for drinks and desserts. The restaurant looked very clean and tidy and the health rating "A" was also reassuring. There was not much room to maneuver around if people are seated at the tables and it was quite disturbing having to move each time someone tried to walk past but the ambiance was good. I will definitely be eating there again I have the chance.

I was privilidged enough to visit the brand new Mendys located at 52nd street and 3rd ave in manhattan. The location is perfect for those of us working in midtown east. The food was excellent as wel as the service. Right now they are having a deal for 99 cent hotdogs.I am not sure if this will be forever or if it is just because of the grand opening, but it was great. You cant beat that price especially for a kosher reteraunt.

I would definitely reccomend heading there during your lunch break.
The half sandwhich and a soup is an unbeatable deal.
I will be returning many times to meet up with friends.

Since you're taking the time to review this place, perhaps point out their hashgacha is sui generis, no one has heard of it before? A little questionable, no?

I was recently in Philadelphia, and had lunch at Glatt Delight, which is the current name of the restaurant formerly known as Maccabeam. Maccabeam went up and down over the years; I remember when it was good, and I remember when it was awful. Right now it seems to be at awful again.

1. Shakshuka was very disappointing. Basically an omelette with grilled tomatoes. NOT what I think of as shakshuka at all. No sauce of mixed vegetables, no half-runny eggs, and certainly no dollop of chumus or ful. Just this fried egg, mixed with these grilled tomatoes.

2. The bean soup was very tomatoey, extremely tomatoey, tomatoey to excess. It was a tomato soup with some beans in it, and not even a great tomato soup. Have I made myself clear? Fortunately, the addition lots of schug served to improve it tremendously (as it does to any soup, but this one needed it more than most).

My family and I recently returned from a vacation to the States that included New York.
Night 1 - Le Marais - we loved it as always, its consistently great and you get what you pay for, great food, great service and great atmosphere
Night 2 - La Carne Grill - wow. A month later and my mouth is still watering. I always thought prime was the ultimate, and dont get me wrong its great, but coming from small town Australia, to eat at La Carne is a treat, my favourite was the Beef Wellington, my wife had the Duck, as for the kids, I should have left them at the hotel, they are now spoilt for life.
Other memorable food experiences on this trip include
those death defying onion rings at Mr Broadway, oy vey
My wife said Pop Bar is the best ice cream she has ever had

I know life begins and ends in New York Ir Hakodesh, but we also ate in LA
We loved Sushiko, Jeff's Gourmet Kosher Sausage Factory and Shilo competes with almost the best

Fress well you lucky Americans, we cant wait to get back

Yasher Koach Koshertopia, you really added to our experience.
